| Rivers - Flooding & Navigation
River hydraulics are a fundamental concern
for any river related activities, whether it is use of, or development along a
river. Understanding and defining high and low water levels, current speeds
and how these vary is the starting point for efficient and innovative solutions.
Baird has carried out numerous studies concerning
river hydraulics and their impact on activities near and on rivers. These
studies have been carried out on most of the largest rivers in North America,
and many other rivers throughout the world. Most of these studies include
components of:
- field studies such as ADCP current measurements;
- 1D, 2D and/or 3D numerical modeling;
- hydrologic assessments and modeling;
- development of information systems; and
- design and construction of structures.
Baird has carried out hydraulic river studies in support of:
- scour and bridge pier studies
- marinas and recreational developments;
- flood assessment & planning tools;
- water level & current forecasting;
- navigational information systems; and
- river structure design including floating structures.
