Rivers - Sediment & the Environment

A clear understanding of river hydraulics is fundamental to assessing the processes that are driven by the river. The complex processes related to sediments and environmental issues have been studied by Baird at locations around the world, using a variety of tools and techniques.

Baird's experience includes:

  • Development of understanding of erosion and deposition processes on rivers and creation of GIS systems linked to models of these processes and related field information to support river management efforts.
  • Field surveys of fluvial geomorphology to support water course management studies.
  • Evaluation of sedimentation processes and dredging for rivers and estuaries through the application of numerical models to support the optimization of maintenance dredging programs, sediment trap design and channel design.
  • Assessment of the fate and transport of contaminants, including field investigations, physical modeling and 2D/3D numerical modeling.
  • Water quality studies of stormwater and other effluents, including field investigations and 2D/3D numerical modeling.
  • Resource assessments including bio-tracking of aquatic species and development of visualization and analysis tools for assessing these data.
