Sediment Transport Expert (OAK100)

W. F. Baird & Associates is seeking a motivated Coastal Engineer with interest and experience in sediment transport and sediment transport modeling to join our dynamic team in the Oakville, Ontario office.

The job responsibilities will include:

• Application of various numerical models in support of engineering projects, including models of nearshore wave transformation and 2D/3D models of hydrodynamics and sediment transport in rivers, estuaries and coasts.
• Provide scientific programming support for numerical wave and hydrodynamic models, coding and scripting, and development of new numerical models.
• Preparation of engineering reports.

The selected candidate will work directly with Baird’s team of internationally recognized sediment experts with the objective of growing into a future team leader for our sediment transport modeling group. We require someone who is self-directed, independent and enjoys resolving a problem from research through resolution in a timely manner.

Our team requires someone capable of working independently, has a positive and proactive attitude, and a passion for sediment. The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years experience, and a post-graduate degree in Coastal Engineering or related field with potential for designation as a Professional Engineer. A good understanding of coastal and riverine sediment transport processes is required. Experience with FORTRAN is essential. Familiarity with MATLAB or other similar calculation and programming tools is an asset. Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada and possess a high level of both written and spoken English.
