Baird executed a design development for restoration of the Cat Island Chain near the Port of Green Bay navigation channel. The island provides a new disposal site for clean dredged material, while new habitat provides major environmental benefits and wave sheltering for a nearby coastal wetland.

Project Highlights

The restoration design is a multi-use solution, providing new habitat, protection of existing habitat, and a disposal area for dredged material from the navigation channel. The design included innovative approaches for sequencing construction of the island, along with provisions for different habitats on the island. The island has capacity for nearly 2 million cubic yards of material – equivalent to 20 years of disposal capacity – and nearly 200,000 cubic yards of dredged material was re-used for beach nourishment.
