Overview

Project Challenges:
  • Providing adequate wave protection while allowing for sediment bypassing
  • Sourcing sand
  • Phase 1 had a very short construction window
Project Solutions:
  • A physical model was used to optimize the offshore breakwater configuration
  • Manufactured sand using crushed coral stone provided a new source of sand
  • Working 24 hours/day on construction to meet the project opening deadline
