W.F. Baird & Associates is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and personable Engineering Project Manager with experience in civil, coastal, water resources, structural or geotechnical background. This North Atlantic based position will complement and expand our existing team strengths in river and coastal ecosystem restoration, coastal resilience, coastal structures, navigation engineering & risk analysis, offshore wind, port engineering, and construction management.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a Life-Cycle Project Manager, with overall responsibility for managing the planning, scoping, development, design, construction administration, and direction of important civil works projects administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
  • Provides expert project management for projects of high dollar value of national priority, of environmental sensitivity, of extraordinary urgency, or having similar requirements and leads teams assisting the USACE with the Project Delivery Business Process.
  • Work collaboratively across functionally diverse teams to develop solutions to technically complex water resource problems and engineering challenges.
  • Responsible for overall project planning, execution, control and closure of civil works projects associated with flood risk management, navigation, ecosystem restoration, and other water resource related projects.
  • Controls and manages project milestones and budgets from planning through construction and initial operations with a focus on meeting project objectives.
  • Prepares detailed scope of work and leads the development of labor and subcontracting budgets.
  • Fosters positive working relationships internally while serving as the primary point-of-contact for assigned projects with USACE project managers.
  • Assists in the development of other project management professionals through mentoring, training, and review of work products.
  • Participate in proposal preparation and interviews, attract new clients, and retain clients as necessary.
  • Work across our different offices and time zones.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil, Ocean, or Coastal Engineering or a closely related engineering category.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • Strong interest in analysis, design, and implementation related to one or, preferably, more of:
    • Ecosystem Restoration – living shorelines, marsh restoration, reefs, adaptive structures (preferred).
    • Coastal – shore protection, flood risk reduction infrastructure (levees, gates, walls), beach restoration, breakwaters, jetties, & groins.
    • Navigation & Dredging – design of channels and turning basins, analysis of vessel traffic and hazards, dredging, dredged material management.
    • Metocean – modeling and data analysis for waves, tides, currents, storm surges, and meteorological conditions.
    • Port Infrastructure – port planning, piers, dolphins, bulkheads, heavy lift structures, pipelines, multi and single-buoy moorings, fenders, and ship loading equipment.
    • Ocean Renewable Energy – nearshore and offshore wind, wave, or current generators and support infrastructure foundations, port logistics, procurement.
  • Hydraulics & Hydrology – modeling effects of extreme rainfall events, assessing climate change effects, watershed level analysis, designing water storage and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Construction experience related to waterfront and coastal projects.
  • Willingness to travel for several 1-2 week periods domestically and internationally. Occasional assignments may be longer.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards relative to coastal engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English).
  • Flexible work style, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, meet challenging deadlines and client needs.
  • Ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external) under tight deadlines and changing scope.

 

Nice to Have Qualifications:

  •  M.S. or M.Eng. in Civil, Ocean, or Coastal Engineering.
  • Construction experience related to waterfront and coastal projects.
  • Broad interest in multiple areas of marine and coastal engineering.
  • Experience with USACE procedures and EMs.
