Broome Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning Project

Overview

Services Provided

The threat of coastal erosion and inundation in Broome is driven by extreme impacts from tropical cyclones and sea level rise. This project examined coastal erosion and inundation risk in coastal areas over a range of future planning periods through a risk-based approach. Coastal adaptation approaches were developed to mitigate risk, with a final suite of preferred adaptation options incorporating stakeholder consultation and economic assessment of the alternatives.

The final CHRMAP document was endorsed by the Shire of Broome Councillors, and its recommendations are being implemented in the Shire’s Coastal Planning Policy to guide their future infrastructure investment and planning needs.
